About the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Singularity

The Singularity is the science-fiction term for the hypothetical/theoretical emergence of greater-than-human, self-improving superintelligence, usually thought of as an intelligence explosion of AI (artificial intelligence), -or- biologically enhanced AI. It's thought of as a point in time where AI reaches the level of intelligence needed to design and produce newer, more intelligent versions of itself faster than humans (leading to a quick succession of increasingly powerful versions of itself).

The Air Force Center for Strategy and Technology produced this video about the exponential advancement of technology:

Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku gives a peppy Sci Fi talk about the singularity:

Futurist Ray Kurzweil, author of several books on artificial intelligence and the technological singularity gives a futuristic talk:

Five-time Hugo Award winning sci-fi author Vernor Vinge discusses the concept of "The Singularity" (which he coined) in this 1-hour+ video:

About Quantum Computing

If the information age began with the digital revolution of the 1980's and 1990's, and kicked into high gear with the spread of internet usage in the 2000's --- it's about to enter its golden era with the advent of quantum computing.

In this short video from physicsworld.com, John Rarity quickly explains technical aspects of quantum computing :

In this video, quantum physicist Michelle Simmons, the Director of Australia's Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology, talks about quantum computing and the first single atom transistor:

In this short video from the University of Waterloo's Institute for Quantum Computing, Prof. Charles Bennet talks about potential uses:
